Purple Rules Modifications:

Cards with the same Color are Totaled, not the Suits as in the Standard Rules.

The Rank Point Numbers and the Color Point Numbers are used for the Total, not the Points Values in the Standard Rules.

There is a LONG GAME version and a SHORT GAME version of the Purple Rules.

BOTH VERSIONS:

Number of Players:  2 to 10 Players

The Deal:  Players cut for the Deal.  The Player with the lowest Ranked card is the Dealer.  Replay if there is a Tie.  Each Player is dealt 3 cards Face Down.  After all of the cards are dealt, the next card is placed between the Players Face Up, this card begins a Discard Pile.  The rest of the deck is placed next to it to be the Stock, or Draw Pile.

On each Turn:  The Player to the Left of the Dealer goes first, with the Turns going clockwise.  Players have 3 choices on each Turn.  They can Draw a card from the top of the Stock, or they can pick up the top card from the Discard Pile, or they can Stay and keep the 3 cards in their Hand.  If the Player Draws or picks up a card from the Discard Pile, they place 1 of their cards on the Discard Pile.  A Player can not discard a card they just picked up from the Discard Pile on that Turn.

Knocking:  At any time at the beginning of their Turn, a Player can say “Knock“.  That Player’s Hand stays as it is.  Every other Player gets 1 more Turn to try to improve their Hand or to Stay.

Blitz:  If a Player is dealt or forms a Hand where the Rank Point Numbers and the Color Point Numbers of their 3 cards Totals 31 Points, on their Turn they say “Blitz”.  In the LONG GAME, all of the other Players place 1 Chip into the Pot.  In the SHORT GAME, the Player immediately wins the entire Pot.

LONG GAME RULES:

Object of the Game:  To avoid losing Chips by having the lowest Total, and be the last Player with Chips.

Chips:  Each Player starts with 3 Chips.

On each Turn:  Players take Turns as above until a Player Knocks and each Player has a final Turn, or has a Blitz.

If there is no Blitz, each Player places their 3 cards Face Up in front of them.  Each Player on their Turn declares which Color they want to be used to form their Total.  The Rank Point Number and Color Point Number of the cards with that Color are Totaled.

The Player with the lowest Total places 1 Chip into the Pot between the Players.  If 2 or more Players Tie with the lowest Total, they each put 1 Chip into the Pot.  The winner of the Hand starts the next round of Turns.  When a Player has put all 3 of their Chips in the Pot, they lose and will not win the Pot.

Winner of the Pot:  When there is only one Player left with 1 or more Chips, that Player wins the Pot and their Chips.

Basic Strategy:
A Player should consider Knocking if they are reasonably sure they will not have the lowest Total.  If a Player has a relatively high Total they may want to avoid Knocking to take a chance at getting a Blitz.  A Blitz will remove 1 Chip from all of the other Players.

SHORT GAME RULES:

Object of the Game:  To form a Hand with the highest Total of Rank Points and Color Points of a card or cards with a declared Color.

Chips:  Each Player Antes 1 Chip into the Pot.

On each Turn:  Players take Turns as above until a Player Knocks and each Player has a final Turn, or has a Blitz.

If there is no Blitz, each Player places their 3 cards Face Up in front of them.  Each Player on their Turn declares which Color they want to be used to form their Total.  The Rank Point Numbers and Color Point Numbers of the cards with that Color are Totaled.

Winner of the Pot:  The Player with the Total closest to 31 wins the Pot.

Basic Strategy:
A Player should consider Knocking if they have a Total which is close enough to 31 that the other Players are unlikely to get closer.
