PURPLE RULES FOR GOPS
Purple Rules Modifications:
Players start with 7 cards of the same Color, not 13 cards of the same Rank as in the Standard Rules.
The Prize Pile is the 14 Clubs Suit cards, not the 13 Diamonds Suit cards in the Standard Rules.
The Tie Break method is different from the various Standard Rules.
The Prize Cards are scored using the Rank Points, not the Standard scoring values.
Object of the Game: The Player with the highest Points Total after all of the Prize Cards have been won, wins the game.
Number of Players: 2 to 5 Players using 1 deck
The Deal: The 7 Green Clubs and 7 Bronze Clubs cards are shuffled to make a pile of Prize Cards. Each Player receives the 7 cards from 1 of the Colors. No Jokers are used.
Betting: GOPS, Game Of Pure Strategy, is not typically a gambling game. If Players want to gamble, each Player can put an Ante into a Pot.
On each Turn: The top card of the shuffled Prize Pile is turned Face Up. Each Player places a card Face Down in front of them as a Bid Card for the Prize Card. After all of the Players have placed their Bid Cards down, the Bid Cards are turned Face Up.
Winner of the Prize Card: The Player with the highest Ranked Bid Card wins the Prize Card. The used Bid Cards are placed in a Bid Discard Pile.
Tie Break: If 2 or more Players are tied, all Players leave their Bid Cards in place. The next top card of the Prize Pile is turned Face Up. All Players now place another Bid Card Face Down next to their first Bid Card. After all of the Players have placed their second Bid Card, the Bid Cards are turned Face Up. The Player with the highest total of the Rank Points of their 2 Bid Cards wins both Prize Cards. If there is still a Tie, the Prize Cards are set aside in a Prize Discard Pile and the Players put their Bid Cards back in their Hand.
Prize Card Discard Pile: If all of the cards in the Prize Pile have been used, the cards in the Prize Discard Pile, if any, are shuffled to make a new Prize Pile.
Bid Discard Pile: After the Players have used all 7 of their Bid Cards, they pick up their 7 Bid Cards from the Bid Discard Pile to create a new Bid Card Hand.
Scoring to decide the Winner: After all 14 of the Prize Cards have been won by the Players, the Rank Points of the Prize Cards won by each Player are totaled. The Player with the highest Prize Card total wins the game. If there is a Pot, the winner receives the whole Pot. If there is a Tie, the Tied Players split the Pot.
Basic Strategy:
If a Player believes they will not win a Bid, or strategically decides to concede to save higher Ranked cards for later Bids, it is best to Bid the lowest Ranked card in their Hand. There will likely be several Ties during the game, so Players should consider this in their strategy. The more Players in the game, the more Ties there will likely be.
