PURPLE RULES FOR BLACKJACK
Purple Rules Modifications:
The Rank Point Numbers or the Color Point Numbers are used to determine the total points, not the Ranks.
3 cards are dealt first, not 2.
A Natural is 3 Aces or 3 Black Spades, not an Ace and Face Card or an Ace and 10.
If the first 3 cards dealt have the same Rank Points or the same Color Points they can be Split, not 2 cards with the same Rank.
The Dealer can only receive a maximum of 6 cards.
Object of the Game: To score as close to 21 as possible without going over.
Number of Players: 2 or more.
The Deal: Players take turns as the Dealer in a clockwise order. The Player on the Dealer’s Left is the first to receive cards. The Players are dealt 3 cards Face Down with the Dealer going last. The Dealer’s 3rd card is placed Face Up. No Jokers are used.
Ante or First Bet: Option 1: Players Ante 1 Chip. Option 2: Players can place any bet up to a predetermined limit. The option is decided before beginning play.
Player’s Turns: A Player can request an additional card by telling the Dealer “Hit”, or pass by telling the Dealer “Stay”. Players may Hit as many times as they want until they Bust (go over 21).
The Players and the Dealer have the option of using the Rank Point Numbers or the Color Point Numbers as their Total Points. If one of the Totals goes over 21, the other Total can still be used. If both Totals go over 21, the Player or Dealer Busts.
Dealer’s Turn: Play continues until the Dealer’s Turn, the Dealer can take as many cards as they want up to a maximum of 6. The Dealer then places their cards down Face Up.
Winner of Antes or Bets: Each Player’s Hand is compared one at a time to the Dealer’s Hand. If the Player’s total of Rank Points or Color Points is closer to 21 than the Dealer’s Hand without going over they win the Ante or Bet. If the Dealer is closer to 21, the Dealer wins the Ante or Bet. If the Player is Dealt a Natural they win Double their Bet. If the Dealer is dealt a Natural, they collect all of the Players’ Antes or Bets immediately. If the Player and the Dealer Tie, the Player just keeps their Ante or Bet.
Special Rules:
Splitting: If the first 3 cards dealt have the same Rank Point Number or the same Color Point Number, the Player has the option to Split them into 3 separate Bets.
Doubling Down: There is no Doubling Down with the Purple Rules.
Basic Strategy:
When playing standard Blackjack, the maximum score for a card is 11 and the minimum is 1. The 4 Aces can be counted as 1 or as 11. The 2 through 9 Cards count as their Rank Number. The 10’s, Jacks, Queens, and Kings, 16 cards in all, that count as 10 toward the Total. The high number of cards that Score 10 is a significant risk when trying to bring your Card Total to 21 without going over.
When playing with the Purple Rules the maximum Score for a card is only 7. There are 28 cards that count as 4 or less versus 16 in a Standard Deck, and 21 cards that count as 5 or more versus 40 in a Standard Deck. Players also have the choice of counting the Rank Points or the Color Points. Players can Hit (request another card) with more confidence, and take more chances to reach a Total close to 21 without going over.
