Purple Rules Modifications:

There are more ways to form a Meld than the Standard Rules.

The Rank Point Number and the Color Point Number are both totaled when Scoring, not the Standard Rules method.

Object of the Game:  To get rid of all of the cards in your Hand before the other Players, and to score Points on the cards left in their Hand.

Number of Players:  2 to 6 with 1 deck

The Deal:  2 Players get 10 cards, 3 Players get 9 cards, 4 Players get 8 cards, 5 Players get 7 cards, 6 Players get 6 cards.  The next card after all Players receive their cards is placed between the Players Face Up to form a Discard Pile.  The remaining cards are placed to the Left of it to make the Stock.  No Jokers are used.

Melding:  Players can form matching combinations of cards called Melds (see Purple Rules Melds below).  To play a Meld the Player places the cards Face Up in front of them on their turn.

Laying Off:  Players can add qualifying cards to their Melds to make a larger Meld on their turn.  Players can also add qualifying cards to another Player’s Melds.  Players can not move a card from a Meld to another Meld.

On each Turn:

The Player must Draw 1 card from the Discard Pile or the Stock.

Then the Player has the option to place 1 Meld Face Up in front of them.

Then the Player has the option to Lay Off as many qualifying cards as they want to their Melds or another Player’s Melds.

Then the Player must place a card other than the card they just Drew Face Up on the Discard Pile.

Going Out:  When a Player gets rid of all of their cards by Melding, Laying Off, or Discarding, they “Go Out” and win that Hand.  Play immediately stops and the other Players place the cards left in their Hand Face Up in front of them.

The Rank Point Number and the Color Point Number of these cards are totaled and added to the Score of the winner.

When a Player reaches a predetermined amount of Points, typically 1,000, they win the game.

RUN
3 or more cards of the same Suit in Rank Sequence
3 or more cards of the same Color in Rank Sequence

SET
3 or more cards of the same Rank
3 or more cards of the same Color

Basic Strategy:
Because there are more matching cards than a Standard Deck, more options will be available to form Melds.  Cards will be used in multiple Melds more often because they can be used as a Rank and as a Color.  Players will be able to form Melds faster and possibly Go Out faster, this will need to be considered in a Player’s strategy.  With more options available when forming Melds, Players have more choices of Strategy when playing with this special deck.
